Alister MacKenzie (30 August 1870 – 6 January 1934) was a British golf course architect whose course designs span four continents. Originally trained as a surgeon, MacKenzie served as a civilian doctor with the British army during the Boer War where he first became aware of the principles of camouflage.(4)



The Mountain Course — Lake Placid Club

In 1931, the Lake Placid Club Mountain Course was remodeled by Alister MacKenzie, (pictured right), perhaps the most famous architect of the Golden Age of Golf Design. Dr. MacKenzie was the consulting architect for the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland.(5)
