Callaway Apex CF 16 iron review

360 Face Cup technology the first face cup in a forged players iron to give consistent ball speed across the face in a forged Apex design.

Progressive sole widths, offset, CG heights and notch weighting complete the perfect balance of playability, forgiveness and control

The longer irons (3-7) utilize the 360 Face Cup to increase ball speeds and forgiveness across the face. In the shorter irons (8-AW), we’ve included a unique engineered face plate to enhance feel and distance control.

It’s like a forged blade with a bigger sweet spot with1025 mild carbon steel to produce a new standard for incredibly soft feel in a forged iron.

True Temper XP 95 stock steel shaft the ultralight shaft (95g) designed to delivers maximum peak trajectory for explosive distance. You can also custom your shaft and change to graphite shaft from Aerotech, Aldila, Mitsubishi Rayon Project X or UST at callaway official website

Callaway Apex has an impressive profile with ideal offset and a classic look.

It has a pleasing shape yet maintains the easy-to-hit look at address that’s a must for a game-improvement iron. The blade length is also of perfect size and that certainly inspires added confidence at address.

The iron’s thick sole and added mass to the heel and toe will likely appeal to double-digit handicap players more so than scratch players, who will likely feel more confident playing the Apex Pro 16 model.

The design of Callaway Apex is the best in it class

The strike and sound when catching the ball out of the middle is one of the sweetest you will hear. There is a soft, “clippy” sound and tremendous feedback on all types of strike.

Added to that is an attractive soft, responsive feel from this forged players iron and we also enjoyed a reduction of vibration on one or two bladed strikes.

Its standard True Temper XP95 steel shaft felt particularly forgiving and certainly appears an ideal stock offering for any moderate swinger of the ball.

One of the longest performers in better-player iron 2015 test got 180-yard mark with a six iron. Gain 8 extra yards with no change in lofts compared to previous apex.

The distance control of the Apex CF 16 is better than most, testament to the additional “Cup 360” technology. Much more forgiving than a player’s club and adequate for this category.

And as its name suggests, we received a pleasing launch angle with the six iron averaging out at little more than 17 degrees.

One of the best iron in it class

The new Callaway Apex CF 16 iron combines technical power with the feel, precision and beauty you get with a forging.

Apex CF 16 is “better-player” iron, but it will suit just about anyone from mid handicapper to scratch golfer
